Individual major medical insurance for people under 65 years of age

The Open Enrollment for Major Medical plans in Illinois ended on January 16th, 2024. Right now you need a qualifying event to purchase major medical insurance (even if you don't want any financial help!) 

​

The most common qualifying events are:

- loss of coverage (for example employer-based coverage, Medicaid),

- getting married,

- having a baby,

- moving to an area with new health insurance options

- getting a legal status. 

- having income between 138 and 150% of Federal Poverty Level

Major medical plans have to comply with the requirements of Affordable Care Act- they cover pre-existing conditions and have to cover 10 essential benefits including pregnancy and mental health services.

Temporary health insurance plans

​

If Major Medical insurance is not available or you are looking for more affordable options, you can get temporary medical plans. They work for a shorter period of time (in Illinois the maximum term is 180 days). Temporary plans are available at any time during the year and can be effective as early as the next day after submitting an application. In most cases they cost less than Major Medical plans (if you don't qualify for a subsidy). We sell temporary plans from such companies as United Healthcare, AllState and Pivot Health.

Group health insurance 

 

We also work with employers who would like to provide health coverage to their employees (and possibly to their employees' families). Those employers can purchase group health insurance. Group plans usually have more options (for example larger networks) than individual plans and they are also available at any time of the year.

Insurance plans for Medicare beneficiaries

We can help you enroll in Medicare Supplements,  Prescription Drug Plans as well as low cost (or even premium-free) Medicare Advantage plans.

Medicare Supplements can be purchased at any time during the year, whereas Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans are available during the Initial Enrollment Period (when you first enroll in Medicare), during the Annual Enrollment period (October 15th -December 7th) and in some other special situations (for example when you lose your employer based coverage).
